Environment

Organisations that use large amounts of packaging are coming under increasing pressure from both consumer groups and governments to minimise packaging waste.

For example, the European Commission has set targets for member states to recover and recycle packaging waste. By 31 December 2008, at least 60% of the UK’s packaging waste must be recovered, and 55-80% must be recycled. These essential requirements aim to minimise the amount of packaging waste generated at source and ensure that packaging can be reused, recovered or at worst recycled.

To help our clients meet these new targets Softbox always aims to use materials that are suitable for reuse and that at the end of their service life are easy to recycle. For example, the Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE) Silver foam we use in many of our systems is virtually indestructible and is one of the most commonly and easy to recycle plastics.

A customer in the USA, who uses Silverbox to deliver drugs to veterinary practices, operates a program for the return of their LDPE insulation liners by supplying a post paid return bag and reports more than 6 uses for their liners. This is great news for the environment as it reduces packaging waste and great news for our customer who is realising significant packaging cost savings.
